No matter who your new heating and air system is made by, it may perform poorly without a quality installation. Inexperience, cheap labor and cut corners can lead to years of wasted energy and premature failure of your HVAC equipment. Hire a contractor who is going to address your duct work and other home needs in addition to new cooling equipment.
Make sure the contractor has a valid license and good standings with the BBB. Make sure they obtain permits, most areas of California require the new installation to meet new building codes which enforce energy standards. A high-quality installation may cost more upfront for quality professionals, but it will save you in service costs and headaches down the road.
WHAT IS A SEER???
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) is a measurement of the efficiency of your cooling system over an entire season. The higher the SEER, the higher the efficiency. Before 2006, most cooling systems were rated 8 – 10 SEER. In 2006, the minimum efficiency became 13 SEER. Today, top-end air conditioners can reach as High as 20 to 24 SEER.
A split-system air conditioner has two components – the outdoor unit and the indoor section (The coil ) Some contractors may try to cut costs by replacing only the outdoor section. But in order for your system to achieve the efficiency you’re paying for, it needs to be matched with the correct indoor coil. Reusing previous indoor components can reduce the performance of your air conditioner (for instance, you’ll only get 10 SEER when you’re paying for a 13-SEER system)
THE ROLE OF THE FURNACE
A complete central Heating and Air conditioning system includes an outdoor section (The AC or condenser) ,the indoor section (The Evaporator Coil), and the furnace it is the most common type of heating and air system. In the central United States and Canada, the indoor section is the coil that sits on top of your furnace. Cool air is distributed throughout the home by the furnace blower.
Choosing the right matching furnace will maximize the comfort and efficiency of your air conditioning system by ensuring you are moving the correct amount of air through the system, also Variable Speed motors, available in most high end furnaces, increase the actual SEER rating by about one point.
At Champion Air we work with the best manufacturers in the industry including Trane.
